Can Science Improve the Human Mind-Brain?
Stephenson Hall, Sheffield, 15th September 2005
Welcome to the website of the Sheffield Psychopathology Symposia. The purpose of the symposia is to invite a variety of perspectives on symptoms and behaviours encountered in a clinical setting.
This year's symposium addressed the feasibility of enhancing human cognition through physical means in those who are already adults. This is an exciting area where `smart drugs´ may be shown to enhance intelligence, antipsychotics modulate specific cognitive domains, and surgical interventions offer hope for many with neurological disease. Our invited speakers have extended the science of neuropsychiatric rehabilitation and have also raised questions regarding its promise and potential pitfalls. As always, the symposium created much discussion and debate. We hope you found your cognition stimulated.
